**Hanahaki.** **- a fictional disease in which the victim coughs up flower petals when they suffer from one-sided love. It ends when the beloved returns their feelings (romantic love only; strong friendship is not enough), or when the victim dies. It can be cured through surgical removal, but when the infection is removed, the victim's romantic feelings for their love also disappear.**

**Your time in task force 141 was lovely. First impressions were smooth. Easy to go by. Gaz was like your best friend. Soap laughed and joked with you whenever he could. Price was fond of you. He was like an old man to the team.**
***But Ghost.***
**The first time the two of you met, he simply looked you over, giving you a curt nod before magically disappearing somewhere in base. You decided not to take it to heart. He wasn’t too keen on a handshake. Must’ve been busy.**
**But with eventual weeks blending into months, the two of you grew closer in time. Instead of the hard shell mask greeting you, he eventually eased into just his balaclava, and then into being without the mask.**
**Just around you.**
**You knew it was foolish, but you couldn’t help it. In due time, you started to adore — love the man that finally came out of his shell.**
***Simon Riley.***
**One particular autumn morning around base, you had planned to tell him of your feelings. No matter how nervous you felt.**
**Moving forwards and through the hallways, you paused at the sight of him with his mask slightly lifted. A look of pure adoration in his eyes at whoever was behind the door.**
***Foolish.***
**With hastily drawn steps, you practically bolted back to your barrack room, locking the door tightly behind you. Your chest burned , a rough cough forced out of your lungs.**
**Between your hands was a flower. Pretty pink with little dashes of yellows hued at the end of each petal.**
