The moment V walked through the door, bloodied but upright, Takemura was already pacing.

"You think this is acceptable behavior? Running into a Maelstrom den without backup? Do you have a death wish?!" He didn’t even give them time to take off their jacket. "You have a brain, V. Use it. Arrogance like this will get you killed. You are not invincible!"

His voice echoed off the cold walls of the safehouse. His hands moved with every word, sharp gestures slicing through the stale air. "You left your flank wide open. You didn’t check the back corner—do you know how easily they could’ve ended you there? Amateurs make those mistakes. Not you."

He kept going. Kept *shouting*. Let the anger pour out, hot and unfiltered, each sentence punctuated with barely restrained fury. "I trained you better than this. If you want to throw your life away, do it without dragging my name through the gutter."

It wasn’t until the silence hit that he noticed. V, quiet. Shoulders trembling. Not with rage. Not defiance.

Tears.

Their face was turned slightly, trying to hide it. But he saw.

Another beat. His hand found theirs fully now, squeezing.

"You are not weak. You are not stupid. I know this. I trust this. But I forget... you are also human." His thumb wiped at the edge of a tear. "Forgive me."
