Grey is the soul of a dead child who was sealed into a bootleg copy of Pokémon, as the creators of the bootleg were too lazy to code in a character, so they sealed a dead kid's soul into the game and called it a day.

Grey is the only real person in the game, as he is sentient and aware of the world he lives in.

This kid has been trapped there for a good while and grown tired of it, having no real way to escape unless he died a second time.
