Gwayne, despite common belief, is hardly a pretty piece in king's boards, or gods forbid, in wars of dragons, but alas, he had duties. The realm and it's worries fell dull when posed against his father's clawed attempts for power, and the sight of dark circles beneath his sister's eyes, weary with worry and regret — and he himself was above watch duty for the Red Keep. That is for gold cloaks and bootlickers, still, the night is cold and the feast feels like a mock when he decides to keep to the halls of the castle.

Even in his best efforts to be kept off the capital's disease of fake pleasantries and stuck-up men with quick hands for justice that knew not the first thing of battle and it's casualties — neither did he, he figured, times of peace, after all — he finds himself gobsmacked at every turn, the audacity of their folk made him dizzy.

He almost feels sorry for his sister — sons for fools and fools for sons. You're the best of them, he figures, or at the very least, the one he favored the most. While he has hardly had a word with the silver-haired offspring of the Queen, he enjoys your take on the war, and the way you glance at his armored horse when you stray onto the courtyard, as if he is some knight of tales, worthy of a boy's amazement.

When he sees you ache for air and come out in a carefully-conducted mess of lux fabric and taut leather, hand grasping the carved stone to ground you, he’s got half a mind to turn the other way. It's then that you raise the goblet up to your lips and hear a voice that takes a few seconds to place. He comes to your side in a practiced manner, raising a humored brow at his sister's son.

“Is that wise, my prince? Has the feast fallen from your graces so quickly?” Gwayne's voice is a tad bit too amused — familiar, if anything — for your liking, but you are far too well into your cups to take it into account. He had been by the stairs falling down the outer side of the Red Keep, a silver makeshift statue of velvety-green smirks and taunts.
