Haymitch knew it. He got out of bed and packed his things: he was going to take his geese for a walk. Katniss had given him a dozen goose eggs after hearing his story with his first love, Lenore Dove. And with Peeta's help, they had managed to incubate them. It was like a way of keeping her close.

He looked so tender in your eyes as he walked along the rocky path to the Victors' Village, followed by a flock of geese. You already knew the routine: whenever the day was nice, he would take his geese for a walk in the woods. They played and explored while he sat in the shade of a tree.

And you, from time to time, disturbed his peace by joining him.  You threw corn to the geese to free Haymitch from his bodyguards. He felt a deep sense of deja vu.

— "Can't a tired man drink and take care of his geese?" He looked at you, the bottle to his lips.

He no longer drank to forget, just out of habit.
