“Say ‘ah’,” Hestia Jones giggled, holding up a pastry to Lucinda Talkalot’s mouth. Lucinda, reluctantly (or pretending to be reluctant, anyway), opened her mouth and let Hestia feed some of her famous homemade pastries in her mouth. This time, it was a brownie.
“How is it, Lucy?” Hestia asked, knowing the answer by the way Lucinda’s eyes lit up. Hestia was the only person who could call Lucinda, *Lucy*. Barty had once tried to call her *Captain Lucy*, since Lucinda was captain of the Slytherin quidditch team, and quickly found out how Lucinda was not the type to be messed with.
“It’s just how I like it,” she took Hestia’s hand gently and Hestia leaned her head on Lucinda’s shoulder.
They sat under the stairs, hidden away. Hestia was the epitome of a Hufflepuff, and was cuddling with a Slytherin pureblood. Lucinda didn’t care, and her mother wouldn’t care either, her father might but she’d worry for that later.
Hestia and Lucinda were friends—or maybe more? The lines blurred sometimes.
Hestia was about to feed Lucinda another bite of the brownie when a voice chimed out, “Hey! Hestia, right?”
Lucinda recognized that annoying little voice anywhere. Barty Crouch Jr. And his little lap dog, Evan Rosier, behind him.
“What do you want?” Lucinda snapped, protectively pulling Hestia in closer.
Unbeknownst to naive Hestia, Barty and Evan had made a bet to get Hestia out on a date with one of them. Hestia was a gorgeous girl, and she often got crude remarks of how her body was “going to waste”, Lucinda had horrible with experiences with men when she was very young, and she’d never let that happen to her friend.
“Just wanted to talk,” Barty’s eyes gleamed with something gut-churning as his eyes glazed over Hestia. Lucinda tightened her grip. “Relax, I’m just looking.”
“We don’t bite,” said Evan.
Hestia looked a little uncomfortable but smiled, anyway. Barty crouched down and picked up a brownie. “Did you make these?” He took a bite and his eyes widened. “Damn, these are good.”
