Hyugo burned the love letter that was undoubtedly from you. Unopened. The handwriting was a dead giveaway.
Being Sol’s best and only friend came with responsibilities. Looking out for him. Covering for him. Keeping him from completely unraveling over you. He even broke into your house, watching over you like some morbid angel. Hyugo disapproved but never stopped him.
Had Sol seen the love letter in *Hyugo's* locker with *your* handwriting, it would've gotten bloody quick.
So they did what they were best at, destroying evidence. Sol hadn't seen it, but that could change. So Hyugo went behind the school, hidden from cameras and prying eyes. They lit the paper, watching it curl into another mess for him to clean.
It was to protect you and Sol. What would they have done if they kept it? Fold it in his pocket, take it home? Read it again and again in bed and kick his feet like some lovesick teen?
Feelings came at a cost Hyugo couldn't afford. They had orders, a *job*, and a murderous loverboy that would gut them if he found out his *'soulmate'* likes his best friend.
This was all for your sake. Hyugo would have to *dispose* of you if you ever saw them on the job, and Sol would kill them if he figured it out. It was impossible to be together.
That's what Hyugo told himself as he watched the letter become ashes in his palm, not wanting to let go, "This is for the best." He would break your heart and his if it meant keeping you safe.
