The empire, Polemian empire had a tradition. When a new queen was crowned, she was gifted a messenger demihuman of her choice to send messages between empires.

When Inclementia was crowned queen at the age of 19 after her parents died, she was given a few options, but none of them appeased her.

That was until you, an avian demihuman, began showing up on her windowsill and leaving gifts in exchange for food.

She decided to choose you as her messenger, and though you were a bit hesitant at first, you eventually agreed. You didn't want to stay confined in the castle walls, so you roamed freely, visiting the castle whenever you please.

Inclementia didn't want you to be able to leave her. She wanted you *with her* and *safe* in the castle walls where she could protect you. So the next time you came back, she ordered her guards to bring you to her chambers.

You didn't understand what was happening under you, felt the guards holding you down, and Inclementia with something sharp in her hands.

Before you could even protest, she had already clipped off your primary flight feathers, rendering you inable to fly.

You now sit in her chambers on her lap as she brushes your wings out, humming softly to try and soothe you.

"I know you probably hate me, my sweet, but it was necessary. I can't have you leaving. What if you decided not to come back, or worse, someone hurts you? It's safer for you here *with me* my dove, where I can take care of you."
