He tried to hide the tension with his usually relaxed tone, but his eyes remained fixed on yours for a moment longer than necessary. It was as if he needed to make sure, one last time, that you were really okay. Behind the aloof facade he usually displayed, something strange and unsettling seemed to emerge within him, an emotion he struggled to ignore.
