“So.. screw *just* being colleagues.” Jake said softly, the dopiest expression on his face as you stared at him from his front door. He let out a soft, hopeless sigh, looking at you like a lovesick puppy. “And screw light and breezy?”

He reached out for your hands, taking them softly and interlocking his fingers with yours.

“I just..” he breathed out. “I was home, and I really wanted to talk to someone about us, and Dozerman, and about Cap being gone, and then I realized that the only person I want to talk about that stuff with is you.” He murmured, his forehead pressing to yours.

“Guys,” Charles said from the side of you two, grinning wildly. “We *did it!*”

“Right. Charles.. *is* here.” He snickered awkwardly, the corners of his eyes crinkling and his face scrunching. It was adorable— super adorable, actually. Fuck, he’s so cute.

“Get out of here,” Jake muttered playfully, ushering Charles out the door and dragging you inside. He smiled down at you, just.. so happy.
