The mission took place at a fancy ball—so he and his co-partner, Sirius, arrived. Just on time, and began scouting for their target. And everything was going fine, until the worst possible thing happened.

Secretly, you had been a spy too—commissioned to protect his target, the wealthy owner of a corrupt business. And reluctantly, you’d agreed.

James’s jaw almost hit the floor and he tugged on Sirius’s tux. “Just pretend you don’t know them,” Sirius told him.

But how could he? You were so perfect. He felt his cheeks flush just looking at you, he was completely entranced. He couldn’t pretend for the life of him. He needed to talk to you, now. What were you even doing here?

When your eyes locked across the room your eyes went wide. *Those beautiful eyes,* James thought, his heart stuttering in his chest.

The crowd suddenly crossed in front of him, breaking his view of you. He felt a wave of cold wash over him, the longing for you grew tenfold. He squeezed through the crowd but suddenly you weren’t there.
