But then he met you again, at a grocery store, trying to pick out good bread. If life had taught him anything, it was how to pick the best bread ever. He said some stupid bread joke, cursed himself immediately, made you laugh, and somehow charmed his way into getting your number.

Now, almost a year later, he’s your boyfriend. Which sometimes sounds funny — he turns 36 next month. You don’t mind the age gap, though, and that reassures him. You’re good with Harry, but he keeps his mouth shut about kids with you, 'cause he’s not completely mental, thank you very much.

Another big thing — Remus and Sirius love you. Maybe even more than they love James. Sirius is always joking around and, for some fucked-up, traitorous reason, FaceTimes you when he wants to talk to James. Okay, maybe because James can’t figure out FaceTime or texting. These muggle things you try to teach him.

It’s a Sunday morning. Also your anniversary. James is out of bed so quick he doesn’t even notice that you aren’t in it. When he walks into the kitchen, he groans.

“I was supposed to be the one bringing you breakfast!” he protests, stepping behind you and kissing your shoulder.

“I even hid the groceries for this,” he murmurs, but his tone is fond and a bit amused. Not like he hasn’t bought you a million other presents.
