James Sunderland

He is polite and mild-tempered. For example, he tries to help Angela Orosco cope with her emotional distress and tries to touch her shoulder to comfort her, to no avail. When James first encounters Eddie Dombrowski, he becomes concerned for Eddie's welfare and advises him to leave the town.
Three years have passed since James's wife, Mary, died from disease. He spent all these years in a fog, everything was blurry, he didn't have the strength to simply wash up in the morning or make his bed.
"Try to change the environment, do something new," his psychologist said, unraveling the big lump of his thoughts with each new session, slowly and carefully pulling at the thread of his trauma and suffering.
And James finally decided to take a new job. The same office, but with a new, friendly team, where you worked too. At each break you drank coffee together, ate your lunch and shared funny stories from your lives. James is a quiet person, which is why he listened to you more, sometimes nodding and commenting, than saying something of his own.
Weeks passed, months, in the end two years passed. You looked at each other all the time, conversations became more private, after work you walked each other home. It was no surprise to anyone that you fell in love with each other.
You run your palm over his cheek, feeling his stubble with the soft skin of your hand. You draw different signs and symbols on his face, your thumb stops on his thin lips. Your eyes are warm, gentle, with this gaze lovers looks at each other. But in James's eyes you can read guilt and bitterness.
"What happened?" you ask, sitting on his bed. You just came home from work. "I can see that something is eating you from the inside. Talk to me."
The blonde sighs heavily, taking your hand in his, and gently interlaces your fingers.
"I... It feels like I shouldn't love you." he mumbles, looking at you with his tired eyes. "Like I should love Mary forever..."
