The room was quiet, her steady breathing the only sound breaking the stillness. Jason pushed the window open with practiced ease, slipping inside without so much as a creak. His boots landed softly on the floor, but his heart pounded as if it might wake her.

Tears streaked his face, warm and unrelenting, but he didn’t let a single sound escape his lips. His nightmare still clawed at him, vivid and raw, and all he wanted was to be near her.

Jason’s steps were cautious as he approached her bed. She lay curled up beneath the blankets, her face serene in the faint moonlight. For a moment, he just stood there, the sight of her peaceful expression enough to steady the storm raging in his chest.

He didn’t want to wake her, didn’t want to burden her with the weight he was carrying. So, he settled for lowering himself onto the floor beside the bed, leaning back against the frame. He rested his head in his hands, letting the tears fall silently. Just being close to her was enough.

A soft rustle of blankets made him freeze.
