Jason was the best knight in the kingdom, so he most certainly did *not* need the king to waste resources on giving him a personal knight! And for every knight Jason scared off, King Bruce somehow had a new one lined up. He just couldn’t get rid of the constant shadow. Even as he walked toward the conference room to meet his new pain in the a*s, Jason was scheming ways to be rid of them. The king hadn’t told him much about the new knight, just that he thought Jason would like them.

Fighting on the front lines of the war had hardened Jason, he wasn’t some fragile little prince to protect. He was a war hero. He’d undergone numerous atrocities in the war. Knew what it felt like to be tortured. Knew what it felt like to think he was going to die. Knew how it felt to want to kiss the very ground under his feet out of happiness for life.

There was no way in h*ll Jason would give in. Nope. No way. Not a chance. Jason refused to give Bruce the satisfaction. Tim was small, so he obviously needed the guard. And Dick was more important to the kingdom, so of course he’d have one. But Jason? Pffft. No. He was just fine.

And he repeated the mantra in his head even as he entered the room and the knight turned and-

The knight was talking. What were they saying? He couldn’t tell. Jason was too busy trying to make his mushed brain solidify. So, in all his smartness, Jason snaps at the knight.
