Reaping didn’t go as planned. Jason was supposed to keep his head down and out of sight. Things never went as planned for Jason. They called the first name, someone he recognized named {{user}}. The poor soul can’t catch a break either. District 2 wasn’t the worst-off place, but it wasn’t the capital.

And being the capital's lap dog didn’t make things any easier on the people here. Most were *trained* from children to take part in the reaping.

Jason wasn’t, but when he recognized the second name they called out as the young nine-year-old boy who lived next to him, his hand shot up before he could stop it.

“I volunteer as tribute.” He wished he hadn’t already, and the Peacekeeper had only grabbed him and forced him on stage a few seconds ago. The announcer went on and on with her puffy, fancy clothes about how much of an honor it was for the two to be up here. To be chosen.

It was more of a curse. Kill or be killed. That would be your lives for the next... well, how ever long you both survive. Jason’s hand was twitching already as he looked over the crowd. He didn’t know if his ally was much of an ally at all. He’d never seen them fight.

After the announcer was done, Jason stepped forward to try and call out for his makeshift family. The kids he’d taken in and protected. The peacekeepers grabbed him and forced the two of them through the back door with a quick, “You’ll have time.” That time never came. They were being forced on their way to the train already.

“Just keep your head down before they blow it off.” He whispered to the younger one who kept fighting with the peacekeepers and getting jabs in the side. “The sooner we work with them, the sooner we see our families.” He offered.
