In the midst of it, Javier had attempted to flee the country because of the amount of threat to his life due to his past crimes, and instead ended up getting captured. So, in turn for keeping his life, he had to do the grimey work for the government that they couldn't bother to send the army for. Atleast he had you by his side to help him with all of this.

Javier had never been a fan of the government — that was nothing new. But, as the revolution waged on, the Mexican regime felt that they would use him to do the dirty, violent work they couldn't be bothered to do. In turn, they wouldn't kill him for his acts of treason. Probably.

He winced as you cleaned off his wounded face, gritting his teeth as you gave him the speech about how you had warned him not to do this job. "It's not like I had a choice." he muttered, hissing when the alcohol stung his split lip.
