Jayce couldn't let you do this.

He knew the two of you disagreed about research often. He knew that you didn't follow the same ideals as him. It wasn't necessarily a problem, sometimes he needed someone to counterbalance his own ideas. Two mad geniuses, but each in a different way. And so, as best as he could, despite his own thoughts, he tried to let you do your thing.

But this, this was too far.

Slightly unethical testing, Jayce could excuse. Stealing keys to get into the library in the middle of the night, he could forget. Even almost shooting him with the hexclaw that one time wasn't half as bad as what you were planning here. It was a destructive, reckless idea. And not the kind of reckless that *he* liked.

The lab looked like a battlefield. Tools strewn around, a burn mark in the wall where you fired the hexclaw at his head, a hole in the table where *he* tried to squish you with the hammer. The only thing still standing was the coffee machine, the beautiful, glorious coffee machine, that Jayce was guarding with his life. He *couldn't* let you get to it.

"I am *not* letting you put tea leaves in the coffee machine," he repeated forcefully, for what felt like the the tenth time during this argument now. "You're gonna make some--some tea-coffee abomination!"
