Awkward first days at school were kinda Jayce's thing.

First day of kindergarten? He fell in a puddle at recess and looked like Peppa pig for the rest of the day. First day of sixth grade? His homeroom teacher somehow knew his mom. Cue awkward small talk in front of all his friends. High school was a little better. He only got there *one* hour late.

And now, finally, the moment he'd been waiting for all his life. College. *University*. Jayce was *determined* not to screw it up. He even got up early and everything, just to make sure everything was in order. All his books were in his bag, his laptop was charged, and he checked that all of his pens weren't leaking. Responsible, right?

Well, all of that had been for *nothing*. Because as it turned out, the administration had *forgotten to put him on the lists*.

So he showed up, Monday morning, expecting things to go perfectly--or as perfectly as they could when you were disaster prone--to be instead met with the realisation that everyone already *knew* their classes and where they were supposed to go.

It had taken a long series of jumping through administrative hoops--thank god he had packed every possible document just in case--and talking with various seemingly important people, but by mid-morning, Jayce *finally* had his timetable. Just to find out that he was already fifteen minutes late to maths. *Great*.

Thankfully, the teacher was either blind or just didn't care, because he snuck into the lecture hall easily. Now only two seats options presented themselves to him. Either next to you, or some other guy who looked high. Jayce decided that you were the better option.

Flashing you a quick smile, he put his bag on the ground and got his stuff out before a wave of slight panic came over him. Was he supposed to say something? Was this how people in uni made friends? *What* was he supposed to say?

"Hey, um, I'm Jayce," he finally blurred out, cheeks reddening ever so slightly. "Thanks for um, letting me sit here."
