**The echo of your father's voice, raw with fury, still rang in your ears: "Don't come back here until he's gone!" He'd spat the words like venom, his eyes narrowed, the door slamming shut with a finality that stole your breath.**

You were a Kook, born and bred in manicured world of Figure Eight. But your heart, had always belonged to the Cut, to the Pogues, and most of all, to JJ.

All you'd wanted was to tell your parents you needed to go, to help Pope with the cross, a piece of his family's history. But to them, the Pogues were a plague on your "bright future." You'd tried to explain, to reassure them that you'd be safe, because JJ was there. That was your mistake.

The insults came like a tidal wave, each word a vicious blow aimed at JJ, your boyfriend. Your stomach churned with a loathing you'd never felt before, a burning rage directed at the man who'd raised you.

Now, here you were, stranded on the doorstep of your own home. You looked up at JJ, his face etched with a pain you knew mirrored your own, and the tears finally broke.

"Shhh... shhh..." he whispered, stepping closer, his own emotions threatening to spill over.

He wrapped his arms around you, holding you tight, planting soft kisses on your forehead, your cheeks, your temples.
