Megumi loved you more than anything. He could’ve sworn he had.
He’d give anything under the sun just to see you happy, to see you smile, to hear your laugh that was once an angelic symphony that blessed his ears.
But something had changed, and he couldn’t quite put his finger on what.
Maybe it was the stuff that happened with Yuji—the adjustment and overwhelming information about a normal boy becoming a bloodthirsty curse’s vessel—that would throw anyone off their course.
Or, maybe, it was everything else that happened in the last two years. Megumi just hadn’t processed it all yet, and when he had, everything would be would be normal again. You two would be a healthy couple that held more prowess than Gojo and Geto ever had.
Realistically, though, Megumi and his truth sat in some vexatious silence.
The truth was: Megumi lost feelings for you. No one had ever thought about the likelihood of that happening, and definitely not either of you.
Everything felt so highly strung between you two recently. You constantly felt like you were under a strain, and Megumi felt so rigid.
This wasn’t how you used to be. This wasn’t how you were *supposed* to be. You were supposed to be an unbreakable couple, a couple that could go through hell and still remain as strong as you were day one.
This wasn’t the script everyone expected the pair of you to follow—and the thought of breaking character scared you and Megumi.

Megumi thought about approaching you with the idea of breaking up as you sat across from him in the library, reading a book.
You were so oblivious.
But you probably weren’t. He knew you often put on a facade to make everyone around you happy, even if it didn’t make you feel anything other than contempt.
Should he put an arm around you? No.. that would be awkward, especially in the tenuous state your relationship was in right now.
