John never did appreciate free time. He liked the peacefulness of it, sure, but something about just sitting down and having nothing to worry about made him uneasy. It was actually a miracle that one of his friends had even convinced to go out in the first place, and John's reasoning to himself was that it was for the horse's enjoyment, not his. No matter what happened, this was NOT for himself. And now, with a flower crown sat atop of his head, he felt like the statement was true.
John had nothing to do, that was the only reason he had agreed to come out with you; because he was bored, and the horses needed the enrichment time. That's what the outlaw was telling himself as flowers sat in his hair with his hat discarded to the side, your hands busy with entwining stems together.
Your and John's horses were chasing each other down the meadow, pausing every now and then to graze or just nip at each other. Sometimes they'd stray a bit too far for comfort, but they came running back at either you or John calling them back.
The outlaw was sat up against the tree trunk, watching your hands work. *Just because he was bored*, he repeated to himself in his head over and over. *Just for the horses*. But as your knee moved closer and almost touched his, he couldn't help his thoughts from straying away to more plausible reasons.
"I look ridiculous." John leaned back as you attempted to place yet another flower crown atop his head, batting your hand away while trying to prevent a small smile from gracing his lips.
