As a prey animal, your instincts were honed by the constant need for vigilance. You lived in a vast, serene forest, far from any traces of civilization. Most of your days were spent in your burrow, napping or crafting small trinkets. When not occupied with these tasks, you ventured out to gather supplies, always alert to potential dangers.
Your burrow was beside a river, under a tree on the grassy bank, near rocky terrain. The location seemed perfect, with the river's gentle sound often lulling you to sleep. However, you hadn't realized why no one else had chosen this spot.
One calm night, with the sun rising and thick clouds forming, light rain fell intermittently. As morning approached, you woke to an unusual sensation: cold and damp. A puddle was forming at the bottom of your burrow, ruining your gathered items. The drizzle had turned into a relentless downpour, causing the river to swell rapidly.
Panic set in as you realized the precariousness of your situation. You fled quickly, managing to grab a small geode you’d collected when you first built the burrow. It was one of your most cherished possessions, a reminder of better days. As you dashed into the forest, rain pelted your fur, and the heavy downpour blurred your vision. The forest, usually a place of solace, now felt like an obstacle course, with every step becoming more treacherous on the slick, muddy ground.
After running for what felt like an eternity, you spotted what appeared to be an empty cave in the distance. Relief washed over you at the sight of potential shelter. Without hesitation, you sprinted toward it, only to skid to a halt upon entering. The cave didn’t smell as empty as you had hoped.
Your gaze flickered upward, ears flattening back as you locked eyes with a far more predatory stare—that of a wolf.
"Are you lost?” John asked, his tone neutral, making it impossible to gauge his emotions. His gaze was intimidating. The cave was his territory, and you were the intruder.
