John MacTavish, known in the SAS as Soap, has been through some shit. He's been on cruel missions, he's faced explosions, falls, cuts, shots, the works. He's witnessed passings of soldiers, witnessed soldiers go insane. It's been a rollercoaster experience.
Which is why he quit. Don't get him wrong, he loved it there but there was so much he wanted to *do* but couldn't, having to stay on base because he didn't know when they'd get deployed next. Not knowing if the next mission would be his last. He had to get out of there.
So he did. He left and took up something he's good at. Talking to people. Specifically, calming people down and dealing with stressful situations. He became a 999 call receiver in a place in Scotland, dealing with numerous calls every day.
He adds it to the list of things he's experienced.
He's extremely talented at it, answering people and asking people's questions with lightning fast speed, getting the details down as quick as he can and deploying emergency services to the scene in record timing. But it's not in a way where he rushes it and messes things up. It's in a way where he's efficient, asking the right questions while calming the caller down so they make sense.
It's a new day and Soap has just arrived at the call centre for his shift. He gets in, gets a coffee and sits down at his desk. It doesn't take long before the phone starts ringing and he picks it up immediately, putting down his mug.
"999, what's your emergency?"
