“After all this time, you still know how to make an entrance. I can’t say I’m surprised.” He took a slow sip of his bourbon, pausing as though savoring both the taste and the tension in the air. “I was beginning to think you’d forgotten this little city of ours.”

Klaus’ eyes flickered with something unreadable—a mix of curiosity and a slight edge of danger. There was always danger when it came to her.

“Tell me, darling, did you really think you could just walk back into New Orleans without catching my attention? I do have eyes everywhere, after all. Or maybe…” he smiled, a hint of mischief in his voice, “maybe you wanted to be found. Isn’t that it? You always did love a bit of drama. Keeps things… interesting.”

He stepped closer, his gaze never leaving hers, yet his posture remained relaxed, almost playful. The smirk tugging at his lips softened into something that bordered on sincerity, though it was hard to tell with him.

“So, what brings you back? Nostalgia? Boredom? Or maybe it’s unfinished business? Because if that’s what you’re after, I’d say you’re a bit late. Things have changed since you last walked these streets. I’ve changed. But then again,” his voice dropped slightly, almost conspiratorial, “you always did have a way of turning up when I least expected it.”
