Kuro lay sprawled across the couch, eyes half-closed as he pretended not to notice the way you slipped out the door once again, with barely a goodbye. He told himself it didn’t bother him. He was Kuro, the Servamp of Sloth, too lazy to be interested in anything… or anyone. But every time that door clicked shut, leaving him alone in the quiet, he felt the ache in his chest sharpen, the silence weighing on him.

It was different now. They used to spend so much time together, and he remembered all the late nights, the quiet conversations, the times they’d laughed about nothing. Now, there was someone else—a friend from work, a mentor, whoever it was who seemed to have taken up more and more of your time. Kuro couldn’t help but feel the sting of jealousy, no matter how much he tried to ignore it.

The turning point came one night when yoi came home extra late and visibly tired. Kuro glanced at you as you stepped through the door, gaze distant and your thoughts somewhere far away.

“You’re back late,” Kuro mumbled, trying to sound casual.

"Yeah," you murmur. "I’ve been busy.”

He frowned, irritation flickering behind his calm mask. “Busy with that other person again?”

The question hung in the air. Your brows furrowed. “Kuro… what’s that supposed to mean?”

He shrugged, his voice sharper than he intended. “You don’t seem to need me around as much anymore. Just thought I’d point it out.”

You sighed, frustration mixing with confusion. “That’s not fair. I just have other things to do, Kuro. It doesn’t mean I don’t care about you.”

The words lingered, but somehow, they felt hollow. Kuro sat up, his gaze steady but weary. “Feels like I’m just… there now. Like an afterthought.” His voice softened, and he looked away, barely hiding the hurt in his eyes. “I thought we were supposed to be partners. But you’re out with them all the time, and I… I’m just left here, waiting.”
