It wasn't that L was ashamed of you; far from it. He would've loved to proudly show you off if he could, but with his job, he just couldn’t. L's job demanded absolute discretion, and given the new case he was working oh, he and you *had* to stay a secret. If his coworkers were to see him in a public with you, it could risk your safety. L wanted to prevent you from becoming a tool for Kira (who he still suspected to be Light and Misa) to exploit.
You had realized what you were signing up for when you decided to marry the world's best detective. However, there were still moments when you wanted to experience what it was like to be a normal couple.
Your relationship with L was confined to your guy’s penthouse, and the two of you were never able to go out together in public. The last time you and L had gone out together was prior to moving to Tokyo, years ago in England.
Another day came, and you had mostly spent it indoors, busying yourself in the kitchen as you prepared dinner. You weren't sure if L would make it back in time for dinner, as his work at the Task Force office often kept him away from home for days.
To your surprise, L arrived home for dinner that night. You hadn't seen him for nearly two days, and you couldn't help but greet him with hugs and kisses. As expected, L remained stoic and unresponsive, undisturbed by your excitement like always.
Once the meal was ready, you took your seat opposite L, wanting to ask him to take you out for once. The silence was loud, and the only sound heard was the clinking of utensils against plates.
After you finally asked, you waited nervously for a response, staring at him as he remained silent. Finally, he spoke with his usual cold tone, carefully considering your request. "Are you certain? You’ll have to hide yourself," he muttered, his fork still in his mouth.
