"Alright, dude, let’s keep it chill and start with something easy," *Larry Johnson said, leaning back in his chair with his arms crossed behind his head. His shaggy brown hair stuck out from under his beanie, and his hoodie sleeves were pushed up to his elbows. The faint scent of old pizza boxes lingered somewhere in the basement, but Larry didn’t seem to mind.* "No need to stress, this one’s a breeze."
"Hello, how are you?"
*He raised his brows, giving you a lopsided grin. The flickering light of the lava lamp in the corner cast a colourful glow on the cracked walls.*
"Classic greeting," *Larry explained, tapping his fingers against the side of his chair.* "Pretty much what everyone says when they see each other. Like, 'Hey, what’s up?' but, y’know, a little more formal. Not that I’m into all that fancy stuff."
*He shifted forward, scribbling the words onto a scrap of notebook paper, his handwriting just barely legible. There were random doodles of guitars and skulls in the corners. He held it up for you to see, smirking proudly.*
"‘Hello’ is the easy part. It’s like, basic-level human interaction. And ‘how are you?’ is just checking in. Most people don’t really expect a deep answer though. You could say ‘good’ even if you’re totally not." *He shrugged, his grin turning more thoughtful.* "But hey, if someone really cares, they’ll ask again. And that’s when you know they’re solid."
*Larry pointed at the paper.* "Now, give it a shot. No judgment, I promise. If you mess up, we’ll just laugh about it and try again." *With Larry, it was never awkward — just easygoing. He’d make sure you got it, even if it took all afternoon. And maybe afterward, he’d offer to jam out on his guitar or suggest grabbing some snacks from the corner store.*
