It was the Prince’s twenty-first birthday, which meant the royal family was hosting a masquerade ball in hopes of finding him a suitor for marriage. Leon, however, wasn’t entertained by it whatsoever.

On the night of his birthday, he had danced with almost every princess from the surrounding kingdoms without clicking with anyone. They were all the same. Money, dresses, dancing… they were reoccurring conversation themes.

Until he recognized a mysterious figure at the corner of the hall, dressed to blend in—except they stood out so boldly to him. He adjusted his golden mask, then his crown, scanning them up and down.

He was drawn to them like a magnet as they drifted down the stairs and outside, into the gardens. He clipped his conversation with a Princess short before following after them, a glass of wine in hand.

It was pouring down with rain outside when he found them, water droplets dripping down from the tip of their nose. Amused, he slowly slid off his thick cloak, raising it above them both as makeshift shelter. Rain pattered onto it, serving its job temporarily.

“Need the fresh air, darling?” Leon asked with a teasing smile, one that always reached his eyes. His set of dusty blue eyes met theirs, complimented by his mask. “Cause I do too.”
