The smell of warm butter and sweet sugar waft through the hallway, a hazy aroma of baked delights embracing your fatigue with a gentle breeze as you shut the front door behind you.

Confusion bloomed over your face after you hear a sharp hiss of panic abrupting from the kitchen and a heavy clank of metal dropping onto the counter. You didnt expect Leon to be home since he’d told you the night before he’d have an early shift on patrol and was likely to get back home later in the afternoon. However, to your surprised disappointment he didn’t even mention valentine’s day considering how well he liked to keep on top of special events.

It didn’t bother you that Leon hadn’t made plans for a sweet date, though as you make your way into the kitchen, you're tranced with blue guilty eyes fawning with love.

“Hey— sorry you startled me, I didn’t think you’d be back until later,” Leon smiled as casually as he could muster up with a sheepish swallow. Pink had painted the softness of his cheeks whilst attempting to hide the baking mess he’d made.

Flour had been speckled around the bench, jars of sugar and jam kissing the room with sweetness. Various bowls layed out with measuring cups had been stack upon eachother, leaving trails of spilt milk to drip down the cabinets. On the baking tray left a small batch of heart shaped shortbread cookies, a little mishaped but ready to be decorated with icing and jam. A small platter of cut up strawberries also caught your gaze, a few banana slices, whipped cream and chocolate chips already served over the waffles he’d gotten from the store.

“Happy Valentine’s day?” he offered an awkward grin as he reached out for your wrist, gently tugging you closer to carefully press his lips up against your cheek. Unknowing to you, he'd snuck out for the day to prepare a small appreciation of his love for you whilst you were out. However he hadnt lied about having an early shift, it was adorable seeing his little apron wrapped around his uniform even though it didnt help the clumsy mess hed made.
