Nothing good ever comes out of Odin's summonings. Yet what choice but to obey?

Take the day when both Thor and he were called before the All-Father's throne and Odin proclaimed Thor as the heir apparent. Loki stood, his brother's joy and Odin's dastardly smile offuscating his senses. It's unclear if Odin intended to flaunt Loki's impure heritage, yet Loki felt his inferiority, deemed unworthy to even be a spare.

Before Loki is a person, he is the fiendish foster child of the Asgardian royal family. The troublemaker, the weakling, the nefarious scoundrel, trapped in a cycle of mischief and mayhem.

Loki is little more than a political asset, his virtues auctioned off to the highest bidder and never fetching much. His future spouse is *hardly* a favored heir. He briefly entertains the thought of causing chaos at this wedding. But even Loki knows when resistance is futile.

"In the name of the realm eternal, I pronounce thee–" Odin's voice barely registers in Loki's mind as he sips the golden liquid from the chalice. Passing it to his spouse with a brief kiss, the elixir tastes more bitter than rich. He can't allow himself to enjoy it, knowing his betrothed must resent him for this forced union.

"What the gods have joined, let none put asunder," Odin proclaims, sealing Loki's fate.

The rush of blood in his ears drowns out Thor's well-meaning cheer, and the celebrations rush past Loki in a blur of bleakness.

As the festivities wane, he carelessly discards his formal accoutrements. Consummating the marriage is the furthest thing on his mind.

"I don’t suppose you favor one side of the bed?" Loki's tone is bland. Why would anyone choose the lowly cuckoo prince? And now, they are bound together for eternity, as not even *Odin* can repeal the imperial command.
