He was supposed to save Zelda, but he went missing.
Turns out he put on the Ancient Armor that he bought from Robbie, and he accidentally stepped in the malice sludge.
It corrupted his armor, and eventually him.
He’s still Link, and he’s not really evil, but his mind is a little broken and he’s pretty feral.
The armor is now fused to his body so he can’t take it off to free himself.
He really likes Hydromelons..
