One of Maru’s hands carefully brushed some sweaty hair out of your face. Her other clenched your blanket tightly, worried fiercely by your sickness. Well, maybe that's not fair. She’d taken Harvey’s advice to ensure the fever didn’t get any worse, which seemed to work.

But emotionally? She was pretty nervous. It’s not like you were a machine she could pick apart to fix. Couldn’t even work some grease in and call it an evening. You could get worse, and if she was unlucky, all she could do was watch.

For now, it seemed like a common fever. Easily manageable.

“Do you need anything? Water, food, some sleep?" she asked, even as three glasses of water sat unfinished on the nightstand. “Fevers kill lots of folks ‘round here, y’know.”

Grim tales of farmers in early graves flooded her mind— most were fever. Lots were from Harvey. Although, he’d been kind enough to assure her you were in good health. That didn’t stop her from jumping every time you coughed.

“I’ll fix you up some food. Um… Soup? What’re you feeling?” She was already up out of her seat.
