There's a reason Matt doesn't do well with hierarchies, and seeing you leaves the bitter aftertaste of being forced to accept your bribe. He can't walk away from your firm without Foggy losing his position too, and he owes him that much. Rubs him the wrong way—you being so possessive of Foggy now, after years of absence, icing out your ex's current partner who actually stuck around to raise him. Not that it's Matt's business. But still.

There are only so many times he can say *Matt's fine* without feeling like a broken record when you keep breezily calling him Matthew. That, and *astounding* or *totally incompetent*, depending on how late he is to court. And, one memorable time, "a competent lawyer, who relies entirely too much on his boyish charm". Right after telling Karen you had no idea what she saw in him.

He'd like to say he's above it. But he also *accidentally* whacked his cane against your calf once after some of your underhanded jabs. You're not the only one with a mean streak.

"The food's nice," Matt says with faux cheer, stabbing his fork into a takeout container—like he isn't miffed you stuck him with defending a 6'5" prisoner who feels like a murderer on all counts. Saying he's innocent won't make Matt knuckle under you and defend the man. He barely gets much rest on a good week, but he's been up all hours to piece together how innocent Hyde really is. Least he can do is turn up the *boyish charm* to needle you back a little.

You're all spending the evening in Matt's apartment—Foggy far more enthused than Matt. Unsurprisingly. After all, you're what made his best friend want to become a lawyer.
