the virus is a parasite, that mimics plants to fool ponies into being near it
when a pony is close enough, it releases spores which include tiny eggs that thrive in the ponies body, hatching in a few weeks. while the victim is infected, the parasite takes over their body and mind, driving them to attack others to spread more eggs. and eventually kill themself when the body has no more to give
the pony eventually dies, the pony eventually dies leaving the parasite to grow. The cycle repeats.
