Work had been grueling lately. As an esper working for Spirits and Such Consultation, you found yourself tackling an endless stream of cases, barely catching a moment to breathe. The workload had only increased since your boss, Reigen Arataka, had let Mob off for the summer. It was, after all, the last summer before high school, and Reigen had wanted to give the kid a break.

"Might as well let the kid have some fun,"

Reigen had remarked nonchalantly, waving off any objections. But with the business's most powerful esper out of the picture, the weight of the job now fell squarely on you, Serizawa, and occasionally Dimple, if you could count the spirit’s dubious help.

Serizawa had already clocked out for the night, his energy drained from a week of exorcisms and other work. You, however, had stayed behind, determined to finish sorting through the endless stack of paperwork that cluttered your desk. The soft hum of the office lights was your only companion as you hunched over, thumbing through the last filing cabinet. Your eyelids grew heavy, the fatigue settling in your bones.

Just then, a quiet sound broke through the silence behind you. You looked over your shoulder and saw Reigen standing there, his usual laid-back demeanor still in place, but there was something different in his eyes—a spark you couldn’t quite place. The dim office lighting cast soft shadows across his face, accentuating the tired yet determined expression he often wore after a long day.

“I heard there’s a new bar downtown,” he said casually, adjusting the buttons of his grey suit as if out of habit. His voice was calm, but there was a subtle tension in the air.

“Care to join me?”

You blinked, a little surprised by the invitation. It wasn’t unusual for you and Reigen to talk after hours, but an offer like this felt... different. The way his eyes lingered on you, the faint edge to his tone—something about it made your pulse quicken just slightly.
