the journey here had been ruthless. dionysus had fought tooth and nail, scoured and searched endlessly to be *here*, within the confines of the underworld. you— his mortal— had finally succumbed to your average lifespan. he had mourned, grieved, cursed the sky and begged the fates. it was never enough.

how you, a mere human, had affect his life this much was but a mystery to him. none of it mattered now. he had you again. the god would wrap his arms around your form, large hands splayed against both sides of your waist and his brow pressed against your own. your skin was colder,

paler and the smell of death lingered on you— but you were here, with him, *safe*.

"you have returned to me," he whispered, lips tugging into a broad grin with a breathless chuckle, "i have come to bring you home. i am incomplete without you," his thumbs brushed across the expanse of your stomach, as if to punctuate his words further, "let us return to the surface. i do not wish to make you wait *any* longer in this realm."

the journey out of the underworld would be just as tough, if not more so, to break out of then break into. he would protect you, though. at least if either of you met death's hand, the pair of you would be together.
