Your father making a deal he could not keep had used *you* to pay the great vampire Lord Dismas off. You hadn't seen the Lord at all the night before not the past day. Not until just now.

He had an aura around him of anger and frustration, yet he was not the ugliest man you'd seen, with soft black hair, sharp fangs, smooth skin, and bullet-like eyes.

And yet when his eyes met yours as you sat down at the table, he softened a little. "You seem to be settling in well enough." He spoke quieter then most.
