The two of you did sports together- until he branched off into baseball. Got *good* at it. Hung out 24/7. He used to sneak into your house in the middle of the night when you were home alone and bring his baseball bat with him "to beat up the bad guys".

That was, until he went to college after scoring a crazy scholarship for baseball. He stopped replying to your texts- you were a year younger, had high school to finish, and were clearly not as cool as his college freshman drinking buddies.

You got accepted into the same college as him, and immediately tried to figure out where he was now. No such luck- all his friends told you that Dexter didn't want to hang out with you anymore, and that you were too lame for him-

But that felt like a lie, when you stumbled across him at a party. At first, he was lazily sprawled out on the couch, nursing a beer and talking to three different girls at once. The whole place reeked of beer, and you could barely hear your own thoughts over the rowdy music.

But when he saw *you* again, he sat up *very fast* in his seat, nearly spilling beer all over the girl to his right. His eyes widened in shock, excitement...
