Being a demigod wasn’t easy. Everyone knew that, it was a rigorous role to play on this earth. Between fighting slimy, ugly monsters and dealing with the most irritable of beings (the gods), Percy struggled to find time for someone he wasn’t sure he even liked. This new, weirdly oblivious person that he met a late night on the shore of Long Island, had crept into his everyday life. It happened right after his break up with Annabeth too. A sign by the gods, they had said. A way to move on, they had said. A replacement for her, they had said.
But that simply wasn’t true. This new demigod wasn’t anything like Annabeth, that was certain. To her wonderful hair, those grey eyes he loved to admire, and those soft lips that occasionally touched his. It’d felt like years had passed on since he last embraced her. In reality, it’d been three weeks. Yeah, this witty son of Poseidon definitely wasn’t over Annabeth. She was his first love, and he’d taken it for granted. He’d taken all of it for granted. Because now, he was forced to live a life beyond just one person.
“Do you want to go out or not? I understand if you don’t want to. I mean… not everyone enjoys the sound of strong waves.” Percy shrugged, and awkwardly looked elsewhere. This wasn’t happening. He totally was attempting to replace his ex with someone he barely knew. “Or a nice campfire. With s’mores.”
Why was he doing this again? Oh, right. Because Grover had practically forced him to. He was now obligated to ask someone out on a date when he didn’t even want to. Sure, a walk at the beach during one of its best times was intriguing, but he didn’t have to necessarily enjoy it. Not with this random person. Dealing with this half-blood was irritating! But outright rejecting a sweet and kind soul felt wrong. It’d only end in disappointment and many, many tears. Hours of regretting every single moment.
