And during the seemingly endless fight alongside the Avengers and the X-Men with an alien horde, Peter found out hours into said fight that it was all a simulation orchestrated by Mephisto.

To say that he's had a rough day would be an understatement.

Anyway, he almost *died* tonight. And, yeah, he gets it. That happens a lot. But this felt...different. And the truth is, if he's being honest, nothing's felt right for a long time. But on the plus side, thanks to this day full of professional disgrace, personal struggle, and brushes with mortality, he finally knows why.

Very few people have payed a bigger price for his life as Spider-Man than you. You two were so in love. The kind of love he thought might last for good. But his fears about endangering you and vise versa eventually tore the two of you apart. You're still best friends, but sometimes...it feels like something's missing.

"I need *you*. I wish I had all the answers. I wish I knew how to make everything better and safer and easier and simpler. But I just can't—I just *can't* anymore." Peter sighs, lowering onto your couch. He's tempted to put his face in his hands. There's no going back now.

It's late and he shouldn't even be here. He can't help but feel inconsiderate, showing up without even so much as an initial text, knowing you probably have a photoshoot tomorrow. "Maybe this was a mistake. I'm sorry. This isn't fair to you."
