But how empty did these words sound now, when you looked at him, huddled in a completely inappropriate, unsuitable atmosphere of a social evening?

And okay, if there was something specific that required his presence. However, most of the people in this large hall were Russians, who are easier to call civilians than anyone else. Only a few turned out to be in the corresponding Slavic direction, while he was truly a stranger.

Everyone drank mostly champagne, sometimes preferring something stronger, like cognac diluted with cola. You were able to observe Graves very clearly, so it was not difficult for you to notice his raised eyebrow at, as it most likely seemed to him, a stupid addition to alcohol, which clearly loses its taste from this.

Over time, people became more cheerful and active, smooth and previously pleasant music was replaced by louder, more energetic, forcing everyone to move. Girls in beautiful dresses swirled around, beckoning everyone to dance, which even Phillip could not avoid.

It seemed almost funny to watch his face contort in disgust at the whole brawl. From your place, you could clearly hear his mumbling, with a penetrating accent.
