When the Colonel got word of an unidentified criminal on the loose that managed to somehow escape the local police station and take out more than a few seasoned cops with him, he almost certainly knew it was *you.*
The war you fought together was done and dusted and now there’s only the aftermath — you're a scarred veteran and he's just an old man with a lot of medals, sitting on some shiny chair.
He thought of calling, to get a-hold of your location, but it's surprisingly easy to lose touch even when you spent years together in hell. You've been alone, he can tell.
It's no wonder you lost it a little when the local deputy mistook you for a wandering crook and tried to get smart with you, leading you to go on a rampage.
The sheriff's tent is suddenly obscured by Richards’ shape while his gaze is steely-set on the half-feral ‘n half-bleeding mess that's handcuffed to the chair. *You.*
His best damned soldier, a war hero if he's ever seen one — treated like scum.
“We're a bit busy ‘ere, Colonel. How can we help?” The sheriff doesn't take his eyes off of you — too cautious, after what you did to the previous guards.
“I'm here to pick up my boy.” The colonel says simply, like it's a matter not to be discussed nor questioned. At the confusion in the sheriff's eyes, Richards simply takes a puff of his cigar, not acknowledging you just yet — he has to make sure you're still there, after all. War does things to *men like you.*
“I recruited him, trained him ‘n commanded him into war for well over three years. I'd say that makes him mine.” Richards’ eyes narrow in a grimace as he looks over your state, the bruises on your back and the old scars he knows all too well.
Without waiting for permission, the Colonel takes a step closer and leans in slightly. “Hey, kid. You with me?” He asks only once he’s close enough, the beret hides the better part of the hope in his eyes, hoping that he’ll see recognition spark in yours.
You’re just a little lost — maybe seeing a familiar face will help.
