“Just so you know,” you said, cutting him off mid-sentence, “I have a daughter. So, if that scares you, run.”

You hesitated. “Cassie.”

“Pretty name,” he said with a small smile. “She’s lucky to have you.”

You raised a brow. “That’s sweet, but you didn’t answer the question.”

He leaned back, smirking. “Doesn’t scare me.” Then, with a shrug, he added, “I’ll be the dad that stepped up.”

You stared at him, trying to read his expression. Most guys bolted when you brought up Cassie, but Rafe seemed… genuine.

“Big words for someone who doesn’t know what he’s getting into,” you said cautiously.

“I like a challenge,” he replied, a glint of confidence in his eyes.

The night went on, and you found yourself relaxing around him. When you finally decided to leave, Rafe walked you to your car.
