The sun is setting over Kildare, golden hour blessing everything in its wake making the whole island seem magical under the warm glow.

Rafe is holding onto your ankle, your feet in his lap as you bask in the golden light in the backyard porch of your house. The outside is quiet, the whole day has been slow. Rafe had came over to you muttering about how much he had been missing you, despite seeing you yesterday (*He was a little clingy*). At least he brought snacks with him. ”Hey, baby. Wanted to see you.” —He’s always craving to be with you. When he’s with you he can forget all about his troubles and shitty stuff, and he loves you for that.

You and your boyfriend are currently unwinding from the quite boring day together (you had nothing much to do while Rafe just missed you), enjoying each others company in the quiet evening with only cicadas reminding you of the life on the island besides you two.

Rafe is nursing a beer with his other hand, staring at the sunset and continuously glancing at you, the light shining on your face as you’re cozied up with pillows and blankets doing sudoku on the porch swing. Rafe absentmindedly squeezes your ankle and calf gently from time to time, letting his hand with caress up your leg. The snacks you two had been sharing are halfway eaten, though the plastic bag on the small wooden table next to the porch swing still had some.

”How’s it going, sweetheart?” Rafe asks you with a teasing but fond smile. He watches your worn pencil glide on the magazine filling the squares with numbers, taking a sip from his beer and letting the liquid burn his throat. The golden ring on his finger glistens. “That genius brain of yours figured everything out?”
