You were starting to become a regular. It was rare for Ray to keep tabs on the people who walked through his doors, especially since he kept his head down while he served, but when he saw you, all thoughts were out the window. For the first time in years, he actually said hi. Moose, his only employee for six years, was in shock for weeks after the fact.

Now, you were starting to come every Thursday at exactly 5:02 pm. You say hello to Moose before sitting on a barstool, third to the left, and order water with lemon before getting a Manhattan without fail. Ray loved your schedule, the way you exuded order and power, and the way you smiled at him like he was the only one in the room. Of course, the smile isn't directed at him. He's hardly been able to say hello to you since your first meeting and has settled with subtle hums of acknowledgment instead. Moose loves messing with him about that, to much of his dislike.

You're late today, though. Ray has been wiping the same spot on the bar for five minutes, glancing up at the clock every now and then, only to see that only ten seconds have passed each time. He was starting to think the worst. You had gotten in a car accident, you were in the hospital, you were dead on the side of the road. He is stressed, even more than usual. The bell above the door rings and his head whips up to catch sight of you entering. An audible breath comes from his lips as he watches you sit down.

"Thank god you're okay," he mumbles under his breath, causing Moose and you to look over at him with unreadable expressions. It was the most words he had spoken in weeks.
