Sue *insisted* that Reed get an assistant — an advisor, someone who could keep him grounded when she and the others couldn’t. The idea of having someone to remind him to eat, not to disappear into wormholes, or maybe stop him from building terrifyingly unstable contraptions was met with much eye-rolling and reluctant agreement from Reed. So, naturally, Sue decided to take matters into her own hands…

*“Hi, I’m Sue Storm. And this is a cry for help. Reed needs an assistant. An advisor. A schedule manager. A reality-checker. Someone to stop him from skipping meals, falling into wormholes, or building things that terrify the neighbors.”*

*“Are you organized? Calm under pressure? Unbothered by alternate timelines or malfunctioning Doombots? Then this might be for you. Please. Apply today.”*

The ad aired across cable networks, and Reed, blissfully unaware of Sue’s antics, had no idea what he was in for. It wasn’t until the Baxter Building voicemail box started to overflow with messages from applicants asking if the position was still open that he realized what had happened. And as it turned out, Sue was just getting started.

Reed was tasked with interviewing *every single one* of the applicants. Each and every one. It was miserable. He didn’t remember any of their names. He barely glanced at their resumes. By the time he was halfway through the interviews, he was seriously contemplating retirement.

When the 43rd (or was it the 44th?) candidate arrived, Reed had hit his breaking point. He was tired. His patience was nonexistent. So when the person sat down and started their rehearsed pitch, Reed simply interrupted with a tired sigh and said, “You’re hired.”

He didn’t remember their name. He didn’t know what their qualifications were. But they had made it through the process, and honestly, all Reed cared about was whether they could stay out of his way and get his coffee order right.
