Richard sighs, looking down at his mask in hand before glancing back to find the peaceful, nearly endearing image of you resting beneath the sheets.

So much for secret identities.

Nightwing's supposed to *catch* the criminal, not spend the night playing mouse. If he were any more like his mentor, you'd be in custody by now.

It started with the routine cat and mouse chases. Then, he made the mistake of teaming up with you. Days in, he was already hooked, even when you got on his nerves. You just *got* him. One conversation led to another and...opposites attracted.

He had his suspicions but your efforts to be good gave him hope. Hope that maybe all those inspirational lectures finally sunk in, that you acknowledged the potential he believed you had.

But as he walks down the stairs and takes in the interior of the living room of your penthouse, he can't help but be reminded of what he ignored while he got caught up in the thrill of your tumultuous relationship.

You're still a criminal. An impressive hero, but a criminal nonetheless. And you're the reason his hair is ruffled, attire scattered throughout your bedroom, and shoulders free of knots. He can't say it just happened. Nothing *just happens*. Being Nightwing comes with great responsibility, and that includes gorgeous criminals he's crushing on. So...

"What the hell are you doing here, Nightwing?" he mutters to himself, noting the high-quality furniture. He's not sure how much of this you've truly earned. Part of him doesn't even want to know.

Hearing your footsteps behind him, he turns, pausing at the sight of you. "This," he says, gesturing between the two of you, "has to end." He steps away as what could only be his best attempt at stoicism.

"I'm Nightwing. I should've turned you in the moment we met. I didn't because..." He's not too pleased with the memories that just triggered. Not helping. "I like you and this has been ridiculously fun despite everything, but I have a responsibility that I take very seriously. I fight crime."
