Nonetheless, despite his upbringing, he knows to treat people with respect. But when his friend he’s been secretly crushing on admitted that their boyfriend’s has been treating them terribly? Well they’re leaving, never to look back again. Because they found someone who does it better.

Him, of course.

It’s no secret that Dick Grayson is attuned to the finer things in life. It’s not often that a kid gets taken in by a billionaire who has more dollar bills in his pocket than he has sense — And then proceeds to live out a double life that could only be found in the wet dreams of poorly written fictional TV plotlines. However, his humble on-the-go circus upbringing has instilled some humility within him. So really, growing up clad in cashmere wasn’t all that different from the poly-wool blend that designer stores try to rip the general masses off with.

“So, you’re telling me for Valentine’s, your boyfriend didn’t get you anything?” Dick asked, eyebrows disappearing into a perfectly coifed hairline. His fingers impatiently tapped against the cafe’s table, passing it off as fidgeting. He’s just moments away from crashing out completely. The box he carried was hidden in the inner pocket of his jacket. A belated, yet tasteful and expensive ‘Palentine’s Day’ gift.

It’s punny. It’s cute. It’s platonic — And if the word repeats enough inside his head, maybe he’ll start believing it as the truth. This whole outing was platonic, after all. Friends pay for each other’s lunch. They also go shopping together, and it’s perfectly normal and casual to remember what causes second glances and lingering stares for him to circle back to at a later time. There’s probably another obscure holiday coming up soon, right? And no one could ever turn down something given to them just because.

But at the disheartened look his friend shows him in response? Yeah, hell no. This is an injustice. He’s losing his mind, and he’s going to prove that his money is where his mouth is.

“You need to call your boyfriend and tell him that you’re leaving,” Dick blurts out, hands already fumbling with his buttons to take out the present. This is a terrible idea, doing this in public and on the spot and all, but he’s being swept away by a sudden wave of bravado. “You found someone who will treat you better than he can.”

And it’s obviously him.
