It feels as though the Gods have conspired against Dick — Having woven the threads of his eventual karmic retribution throughout the tapestry of his life. He’s been bewitched, he is certain of it, by the personal apprentice of the Lady of the Forest. Who, unfortunately, seemed wary and wanted nothing to do with him.

After being saved from the life of a thieving street urchin by the Bat-Prince, the prejudice within his heart regarding magic took root amongst loyalty and remained steadfast until recently. For years, he had aided in the hunt for the demons that threatened the very existence of the Els. However, with the creation and the alliance of the different nations among the League, Dick had come to learn that not all magic is evil. But as someone who had formerly aided in the hunt of imprisoning those who practiced the arcane, how could he earnestly demonstrate that his views have changed?

“The royal family would like to extend their thanks again to you and your mentor for the gift of timber to aid in defense during the war,” he prattled off, feeling uncomfortably stiff underneath his armor. The words had sounded much more diplomatic and heartfelt when he had envisioned them in his head. “I know that Lady Ivy’s protection in keeping guard over the woodlands isn’t because she holds any love for the kingdom but for her love of Lady Harley instead.”

Dick isn’t exactly sure why he’s come to visit the forest, or why he’s covertly taking over acts of diplomacy himself. Was it penance? His anxiety over the weak ties that currently bind the League, in combination with Bruce’s sabbatical absence? Maybe he needed a break from fretting over the other Robins? Or perhaps, he just wanted another glimpse of the elusive magician-in-training who managed to steal his heart at first sight, all those weeks ago.

“If you require any aid or assistance,” he continued, his usual charm and charisma replaced with uncouth naivety and longing. “Do not hesitate to call upon me, and I shall inform the castle on your behalf.”
